A relatively new technique in the automotive world, coding software modifications to a vehicle can allow the use of functions not available by default in many modern vehicles when they leave the factory. This can be for different reasons, mainly local regulations. Please note that this does not imply changing the software of the car, it only changes preprogrammed options that already exist in the vehicle’s software.
For a person to be able to make these changes to a vehicle, they require different tools typically including an OBD to Ethernet/USB adaptor and a laptop with dedicated software. Many different vehicles also have their own specific requirements as well, for example the BMW E-Series vehicles require an Ediabas K+DCAN USB interface, whereas BMW F-Series require an Ethernet to USB(ENET) interface.
